In what do you find the simplest of joys? Quiet time with a cup of tea and a good book.
Jello or Pudding? And what is your favorite flavor? I’ve never been a huge fan of jello, which we call jelly here in Oz. I absolutely love a good Christmas pudding. Last Christmas I made (for the first time) the traditional family egg white fluffy custard, which makes an awesome pudding even better, but regular custard will also do.
Is there a language you would like to learn? I really should learn some more Cantonese since half of my family speak it already. I have always been able to understand more than I can speak and I know the names of all my favourite dishes to be able to order them at yum cha (dim sum), but it isn’t really enough.
Do you prefer juice or fruit? I don’t have much of either regularly but I’d probably prefer the less concentrated form of sugar in the actual fruit. Although I do really enjoy a freshly squeezed juice blend, often something like orange, apple and ginger – yum!

I like Kate Atkinson but not read that one!
I hadn’t heard of her before reading this book but I quite enjoyed it.
Egg white fluffy custard ?? … you must share that one Georgia 🙂
It’s pretty fiddly so we only ever do it at Christmas. Oh no! I don’t seem to have the recipe – I’ll get it from my mum and get back to you Poppy.
🙂 thanks G … not too sure if I’m too good with fiddly though Lol
I’ve finally got the recipe Poppy!
1tbs butter
1 tbs icing sugar
½ tbs vanilla essence
1 tbs plain flour
1 cup milk
1 egg white (beaten)
(leave the butter out of the fridge overnight to soften)
Beat together the butter and icing sugar to a cream. Add vanilla and beat in smoothly 1 tbs of flour. Add 1 cup of milk, stir over heat till it thickens.(If lumpy ….use the bamix to remove lumps)
Remove from heat and lightly fold in beaten egg white.
It is the most beautiful moment, with a book and a cup of tea… I can feel the ambience! Wonderful photographs. Thank you, love, nian
Thanks so much Nia, yes a good book with a nice cup of tea is a great way to relax
I forgot about Christmas and bread puddings. I think I like those even better than custards, especially on a cold day like today.
Oh, you’ve just reminded me that my friend does an amazing caramel pudding that is a variation on bread and butter pudding made with croissants, just fabulous: http://hungryaustralian.com/2011/08/caramel-pudding-with-honey-ice-cream
A relaxing hot cup of tea and a good book …. perfection.
Absolutely Isadora
