Share Your World – 2013 Week 42

If you were the original designer of one existing corporate logo, which one would you select? I think the Amazon logo is pretty clever, with the smile arrow pointing from a to z – so simple yet conveys a great deal about the company’s goals.

If you could have your own TV channel, what would it be about? It wouldn’t be strictly ‘about’ something but rather all the best TV shows that I enjoy. At the moment we are watching Homeland, The Blacklist, Modern Family, The Newsroom, How I Met Your Mother, Luther and White Collar. I also like Grey’s Anatomy but I have to watch that on my own because my other half doesn’t like it any more. Other shows that aren’t on right now but would be included are Game of Thrones, Justified, Orange is the New Black, Veep, Ray Donovan, The Borgias, Legit and Californication. I’d also show re-runs of excellent shows like The West Wing, Arrested Development, The Wire, Love Soup, Seinfield, Damages, Episodes, House, Rome, Laid,  The Office and The IT Crowd. Oh, I’m starting to think that maybe we watch too much TV.

If you were on a small island, who would you want to be with? And where is it?  How big is it? I see that there is no caveat that this is a remote desert island with no other inhabitants so I choose Brantôme in the south of France. According to Wikipedia this island is 34.65 km² (13.38 sq mi), small enough to know everyone and large enough to be able to go for a walk. Naturally I’d be there with my other half.

At what age did you become an adult? While I do many adult things like pay my own bills, drink wine and eat pâté & olives, in a lot of ways I still don’t feel like an adult even though there are several indicators that I am. Legally I became an adult at 18 and I felt very grown up when I first went to vote after this. I remember getting my driving licence at 17, and although I had to ask my Dad to borrow the car I still felt very grown up taking it out for the first time on my own. One time when I’d just started teaching at a new school and the kids were eager to get to know me, a student asked (as they always do) ‘do you have any kids?’, out of habit I replied that I wasn’t old enough to have my own kids but then quickly realised that actually, at 35, I was probably older that a lot of their parents and should start being more of an adult.
