Share Your World – 2015 Week #10

When you lose electricity in a storm, do you light the candles or turn on the flashlight? How many of each do you own? I honestly can’t remember the last time we lost power during a storm so I don’t know what I do. Right now I only know of the location of one candle in our place although we do have a bunch more in storage. I may have a hard time locating matches to light the candle with but I know where they are at the moment. I would definitely turn on the flashlight on my smart phone because it is likely to be within arms reach much quicker than anything else. I have one other little flashlight, one that is kinetically powered when you squeeze a mechanism on it with your hand, but I keep it in the car, this question make me think I should relocate it inside.Candle

You are given $5,000 and the chance to exchange it for one of two envelopes. One envelope contains $50,000 and one contains $500. Do you make the trade? Why or why not? I’m not a huge risk taker and $5,000 is a lovely sized gift so I wouldn’t risk exchanging it for the lower amount.

What’s your first memory? I remember before my sister was born, she is 3 1/2 years younger than me so I was about 3. I remember my mum organising a baby doll for me, with a bed for the doll. I had to choose blue or pink for the bed head on the doll’s bed and I’m certain that I chose pink but was actually given blue, or perhaps it was the other way around. Either way I remember this event.

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep, toss and turn, or get up and try to do something? I have never found counting sheep to be a successful strategy for falling asleep. And because I wear contact lenses it is difficult for me to get up and do something without going through the whole pallaver of putting the lenses back in so I listen to audio books, this usually lets me fall back asleep relatively quickly but even if I don’t get back to sleep I’m doing something interesting to fill the time.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I’m grateful for a visit from my mum and step-dad and being able to spend some quality time with them. I’m looking forward to celebrating my other half’s birthday this week.

    • Thanks Prior. I had to resort to this last night, Bill Bryson didn’t work as well as he usually does though for putting me back to sleep so I went with the other old faithful: Harry Potter.

      • ha! glad you found something that worked – and it really is a great idea to use audio books like this – and it is an area i want to tap into more –
and a longggggg time I ago I recall that I heard someone say that lying flat is key to important rest for the inner ears – so if it is a low sleep night – just taking the pressure off the ears can help (or something like that) but I try to remember that and stay resting up or lying flat — who knows – and well, have a great Sunday!

      • That sounds right, I mean if I don’t sleep well I do try to at least rest my body and feel better for it, I think. My Sunday is pretty much over now, back to bed already – I hope I can sleep tonight to get ready for the week ahead. Have a good one Prior!
