I still don’t know what these are about but we saw them a few times in Fes, but only in that city on our travels through Morocco last year. I don’t know if the colourful twine is simply decoration for the walls or serves some function. I thought it was pretty unique.

Maybe something like a huge rug was hanging from there at one time? I don’t know….it’s intriguing though.
it looks quite fresh though, and I’m sure we saw people winding it on there. Just didn’t have the language skills to ask ‘what for?’,
How very unusual. Maybe it’s something like the ‘yarn bombing’ that is becoming more common here. I saw it once in a town in Cornwall, where knitted ‘covers’ had been put round lampposts. 🙂
