Weekly Photo Challenge: Free Spirit

Friday just gone was the first sunny day for a while in London so we thought we’d make the most of it and take a visit to Kew Gardens.

For the next several months, the artist David Nash is building an exhibition using wood and trees and the existing environment of Kew Gardens itself. I’m interested to see how the exhibition will evolve.

We watched an introductory video which showed David working on his sculptures with a chainsaw high up on a cherry picker, which gives you an idea of the scale of his pieces.

David is not my free spirit for this week’s challenge, although he possibly should be – there were some small free spirits hiding inside of the Oculus block sculpture (made in 2010 from eucalyptus), not wanting to go home when their mum was calling to them.Are you a free spirit?
